Meet Donna ~ ETERNAL OPTIMIST * AMBASSADOR OF KINDNESS * PAINTER OF POSITIVITY
MY “WHY”
Through my art, I seek to create a sanctuary for the soul—a place to escape life’s emotional intensity and find solace. Having felt the weight of the world myself, I understand the need for even the briefest moments of relief. My paintings mirror the complexities of life while offering a quiet yet powerful message of hope, resilience, and positivity. With soft, soothing palettes and deeply intentional textures, I aim to evoke calm amidst the chaos, fostering connection and reflection. I believe art has the unique power to uplift, to unite, and to spark meaningful dialogue. In a world that can often feel overwhelming, my goal is to create work that radiates warmth, love, and optimism—serving as a gentle reminder that light always finds a way. With every brushstroke, I ask, “How can this piece provide a moment of peace and inspiration for someone’s journey?”
ARTIST STATEMENT
As a Vancouver-based abstract artist, my work explores the profound emotional connection between art and the human spirit. My heavily textured acrylic and wax paintings are a celebration of softness, resilience, and optimism, created to evoke ease, inspire storytelling, and ignite a sense of calm within each viewer.
Rooted in my 25-year journey of healing and self-discovery, I aim to reflect the beauty of transformation and the importance of finding balance in life. Whether capturing the energy of a sunrise, the serenity of a horizon, or the resilience found in life’s cracks and imperfections, my art invites you to pause, reflect, and connect with the emotions that make us human.
For me, art is more than a visual experience—it is a means of offering comfort, sparking joy, and encouraging personal growth. I believe that the right piece of art can transform a space into a sanctuary and provide a sense of belonging and hope. Through collaboration with collectors, interior designers, and art enthusiasts, I strive to bring artwork into homes and spaces where it speaks to the soul and complements the heart of its environment.
With over two decades of artistic evolution, I am inspired by the power of art to heal, connect, and empower. My work is an invitation to embrace life’s light, shadow, and endless possibility with open hearts and hopeful minds.
ARTIST BIOGRAPHY
Donna Giraud is an abstract painter celebrated for her large-scale, textural statement artworks. Based in the breathtaking surroundings of North Vancouver, British Columbia, Donna creates from a warm and inviting studio nestled near the mountains. Her work embodies an unmistakable sense of tranquility and emotional resonance, offering viewers an opportunity to pause, reflect, and feel deeply.
After four years co-managing a successful downtown Vancouver gallery with three other artists, Donna has returned to her roots, focusing solely on creating art that inspires and connects. Her pieces are known for their intricate layers, gestural shapes, and heavy textures, evoking universal emotions that encourage self-reflection and a sense of calm.
Donna’s journey as an artist began more than two decades ago, but it was in 2017, after 14 years as a nurse, that she embraced painting full-time. Her transition from healing through medicine to healing through art has profoundly shaped her creative mission, and her work now adorns homes, offices, and commercial spaces across Canada, the USA, and Mexico.
An avid traveler, Donna has explored 27 countries to date, finding endless inspiration in the textures and colors of her adventures. From the moss-covered woodlands of a local hike to the weathered facades of centuries-old buildings abroad, she captures these moments to later translate them into her art.
Her work has been featured in publications such as Boulevard Magazine, Vancouver Home, and online platforms like Fresh Magazine, Vancouver is Awesome, and SD Voyager. In addition to participating in events like IDS Vancouver and the BC Home and Garden Show, Donna produces an annual solo art exhibition with a distinctive twist, designed to make everyone feel welcome in the art world.
Donna’s mission is to create art that tells a story—pieces that are not only stunning and meaningful but also attainable and accessible. Through her richly textural creations, she continues to inspire others to see the beauty in life’s subtle layers and cherish the art of emotional connection.
